This blog is kinda all about little things. The things that surround us that are beautiful when so much is so ugly. Today I found a different kind of beauty. The beauty of what is inside us. And for me...that was strength.
Which is a quality I don't personally feel I show very often. Especially when it comes to situations such as today. I generally allow myself to get walked all over, and cave into any demand. And that's with everybody...when it comes to work...we'll just say that assertion is something that I'm learning to work on everyday.
I don't want to go into boring details...but today I stood up for myself at work. Don't get excited there was no big fight or battle royale...I simply stood up for my equality. And I asserted that I was just as important as other people on my "team." I know I'm going to catch hell for it tomorrow...so here comes the second part of doing something kind for myself today:
Again...I don't know why this photo went sideways. I decided that I needed a distraction from worrying about getting in trouble tomorrow (imminent) and painted my nails while reading some fashion mags (okay I didn't do them at the same time...but now that my nails are painted I fully intend to read). Totally girly afternoon. I also ran some very important errands (adult stuff!!!) and took a nap (I worked out at 6am today!). So I did quite a few things for myself today. But the most important, the most rewarding...was reminding myself that I AM worthy of equal treatment and that I DO deserve rights in my workplace. And honestly...to remind myself that I AM NOT a doormat was a good lesson I needed to relearn. And I need to continue relearning it, everyday in all my actions. And may God's grace be at my side tomorrow when I receive repercussions from today's actions...I'll need it.

I am pumping my fist in the air whilst humming tune to theme song from the movie Billy Jack. "One Tin Soldier" in case you are far too young to recognize the reference, which I know you are... Being your mother and all.
