Mood: put it in writing....
I've blogged before about how I am incredibly resistant to change. Of nearly any sort. Except for clothes. And hair. Underwear also. That changes frequently. Anyway...the point is, I typically am afraid of all the "what ifs" that come with changing things. The problem with asserting that I don't like change and this blog? Well...they are kind of diametrically opposed. I mean the word "change" is in the title for Christ's sake.
And this blog has changed since I started writing it...as has my life. I have changed in general. There have been huge changes, minor changes, smart changes, dumb changes...you get the idea. I was texting with my womans last night and this morning. She had just finished (this morning) her 4th of 12 hour overnight shifts in a row. She was painting her toenails (HOT PINK) and indulging in "her time" because of...get this shit...me. That's right...I inspired her a bit.
I'm fairly certain that everybody is aware of the need to take time out every so often. You won't make it out of this life alive if you can't stop and pamper yourself sometimes. And it doesn't have to be crazy big...it can be painting your toenails and texting a friend.
With that in mind...as you've been following this blog (or not...in which case feel free to read old entries) I've been doing my fair share of dating. First dates, non-dates...and other random assortments of social interactions. Last night? Another first date. I've blogged before about hating them. There's something kind of inherently evil about the first date. I feel like it wasn't always this way though. For example, Adam and Eve? That could have been super awkward but at least they had the whole world to themselves so they didn't have to worry about making fools out of themselves publicly. Plus I mean...they had the whole freaking garden to talk about..."that IS a nice bush" (yeah...I did).
Anyway. So a first date. On St. Patrick's day. With no alcohol. And sushi. Incredibly festive, I know. But it was actually...fantastic. While driving I found this in the KIA (which is going goodbye foreverrrrrrrrrrr soon!)
When I was smoking I had lighters stashed everywhere (you can NEVER find one) and that...sadly...included my sister's car. I was looking for a tissue when I found this. Uh...luck of the Irish? I think so. It was a sign from the KIA that the date was going to go well. And then:
That's right ladies and gentlemen, romance is not dead. I honestly don't even remember the last time I got flowers from a man. Other than my father. Which while greatly appreciated...just isn't quite the same. And on a first date? In my favorite color? Major points right there. The point scoring continued as he opened my car door. I think the last time that happened was........prom? Not certain. I think it's kinda sad how impressive the "little" things really are. But seriously...that's what life comes down to. On a day to day basis it doesn't matter how many Rolexs you own...you can really only wear one at a time anyway. What does matter though, is being surrounded by people that you care about...that care about you...and that show you they do.
I'm not planning a wedding or...more accurately adding anything to the one I have planned (and have had planned for probably 4 years or so.....) but I did have a first date that...didn't actually feel like a first date. It was just...kinda...I don't know...
But I do know this...I've been smiling pretty much all day. Staring at the flowers on my vanity is making me incredibly happy...as is listening to music and writing.
I've acknowledged before that change is inevitable...and what I'm realizing today is that...that's a good thing. And often...it's not even that scary.
Enjoy. And I'll continue with the ongoing story of my life by trying to remember it's not ALL about the shoes and the cars and the purses...but the little things...and the changes that lead you to them.
bringing good to the world starting with changing one person: me.

Little Things, Big Heels
Mood: showered, relaxed, tired, slightly accomplished
Today I woke up at 6am. Thus, if the blog post earlier rambled and didn't make sense, it's because I wrote it at 6am. After that, I decided to go back to sleep since today is my only day off in...I'm not sure how long because the September calendar for work has not been made. After 20 minutes of tossing and turning, I decided to get my day going by prepping my nails for painting and pampering.
After which, it was time for the inevitable: packing. Caitlyn and I packed most of our clothes (okay about half of our clothes) and kitchen items Bathroom items, living room items AND in addition to organizing and packing all of that, we took multiple loads to the car and to be ready to literally just GO. After that, I decided to treat myself to a nap, which really ended up laying in bed while Cait talked then did some work, and I eventually woke up. More packing. And then I did my nice thing for myself today.
I totally shaved my legs in a luxuriously long shower. And after painting my nails and showering and shaving...Caitlyn and I sat down to watch the Emmy's. I LOVE red carpets...and some day I want to walk one. Which is why perhaps I'll have a red carpet at my wedding...just for fun. Anyway, sometimes I get bored and to spice things up I put on heels or do my make-up or wear a tiara. Tonight:
Unfortunately at the first commercial break to the Emmy's we went to the bathroom...and saw poor Maddie all alone in the bed waiting for us excitedly to get in with her. So we moved from one room to the other and decided to cuddle with the lonely little puppy instead of watching people win awards and fawning over dresses and shoes. After all...sometimes life really is all about the little things.

Growing Up
Today was...a day. It began at 5:15 when I very politely told my alarm to go to hell (it was Lady Gaga's Bad Romance...I don't think she was offended) and rolled back over. At 6:05 I finally woke up...checked all the necessary social networking and e-mail things...showered...dressed...and went to work. I then worked.
After work I went to lunch with my Grandmother and sister. Then came errands (bank run, obligatory Wal-Mart run even though I left empty handed). And then came...a two hour time period before I had to go back to work. Not cool. Because when you only have a certain amount of time before you HAVE to do something....it always seems to feel as though you've got time to do exactly nothing. For instance, laundry was out. Packing for the move to the new apartment...out. Cleaning....I was too lazy. So I decided I would nap.
That did not work. Then I remembered that I hadn't done anything for myself yet today. So I did this: I made the bed beautifully. I've been getting back into the habit of fully making the bed daily (instead of just pulling the sheets a bit) and have even been making it look pretty some days. Today was one of those days. No pictures...but it looked like a little slice of heaven. And I decided I would make it so that when I returned from work I had something pretty to return to. Sometimes it really is the littlest things that make the biggest difference. Knowing that I had a small little oasis awaiting me made work slightly more bearable.
Tomorrow (if all goes according to plan) Caitlyn and I will be going to the Iowa State Fair for the first time ever. We have tickets for We the Kings (soooo excited) and Boys Like Girls. However...we didn't know that going to the fair required money other than the concert tickets (the Great Allentown Fair DOES NOT charge admission at all...you hardly even have to pay for parking). Anyway...so the added expenses (boo) make tomorrow a perhaps no go...which will both sadden me (as I am DYING to see this band live) and piss me off (since I've already purchased NON REFUNDABLE tickets). But growing up means making choices and...if we can't hack the extra money then...we don't go to the show and sit angrily on wasted $50.
